3/Cst. Hoey wanted to be a police officer all his life. He was devoted to his church and helped build the St. Anne’s Church in Peterborough. Unfortunately, the very first funeral held at the church was his own. He was shot while investigating a complaint at Botwood, Newfoundland. 3/Cst. Hoey was only three weeks out of training when he was killed. He is buried in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Peterborough, Ontario.
