Staff Sergeant Bossange was born in France and came to Canada with his parents. He fought in the Riel Rebellion in 1885 and left the Force in 1886 and 1890. He was promoted to Corporal on June 1, 1887, to Sergeant on December 19, 1889 and Staff Sergeant on September 1, 1913. He had exemplary service.

He was struck by lightning while on patrol at Spirit River, Alberta. The watch in his pocket was stopped at 5:40 and the metal of the watch was melted and the crystal was broken. The butt plate on his revolver and about one-half inch from the muzzle of the steel barrel had melted. In the 45 years of patrolling the prairies on horseback, he was the only member to be killed by lightning.

Staff Sergeant Bossange was married to Mary Emma and had three girls and a boy. His son, Waldemar Leopold Robert Bossange, was killed in action in First World War.

Commemorated on Page 42 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
