Corporal Morphy was formerly a law student and clerk with the Federal Bank in Toronto. He was an accomplished athlete who captained the Toronto Rugby Union Football Club and oared competitively with the Argonaut Rowing Club. He was promoted to Corporal in February 1889. Corporal Morphy drowned in Lake Winnipeg when the Mounted Police boat capsized during a storm.

Commemorated on Page 16 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
