Municipality – Sackville, New Brunswick Address - 62 York St. E4L 1E2 MEMORIAL PLAQUES: The Memorial Plaques are a series of bronze plaques that list the names of all Mount Allison students and alumni who lost their lives at war. The focus of the University’s annual Remembrance Day service sees students, faculty, and staff gather together to pay homage to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Every year since 1927, the names of each of the fallen are read aloud. The Plaques were first located immediately inside the entrance of a building originally called the Memorial Library. The construction of the Memorial and building were paid in part with money collected by donations from the friends and family of students and alumni. Opened on 8 June 1927 it was dedicated to those Allisonians who died in the First World War. Plaques to a Nursing Sister killed in the First World War, and other Allisonians killed in the South African War, Second World War, and Korea were added subsequently. The Plaques have been moved twice over the years since they were first dedicated. In 1958 they were moved from the main hall of the library to the stairway due to renovation. In 1970, the building was repurposed and the name of the building changed to the University Centre. The Plaques were moved to their current location in 2008 and are now in a prominent position. Situated on the ground floor atrium of the new Wallace McCain Student Centre, they are mounted on the wall just outside the University's prestigious Tweedie Hall, which features a large mural done by famed war artist and alumnus Alex Colville.
