Site restrictions

From 6 to 17 May 2024, maintenance and inspection work will take place on the monument of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial. Visitors may still view and explore the site, however, access to the monument may be restricted at times to ensure the safety of workers and visitors. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Veterans Affairs Canada remains committed to preserving the integrity of this memorial site by completing maintenance and inspection work on a routine basis.

Annual events

The Canadian National Vimy Memorial and the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial host annual events to mark important First World War anniversaries.  

  • Vimy Day (Canadian National Vimy Memorial) – April 9
  • Ceremony commemorating the battles of the Somme and Beaumont-Hamel (Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial) – July 1
  • Remembrance Day – Official Ceremony (alternating sites annually) – The Sunday before November 11
  • Remembrance Day – Guide-led Moment of Reflection (Canadian National Vimy Memorial and Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial) – November 11

Visitors services

The Canadian National Vimy Memorial and the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial sites are accessible to visitors year-round. Site activities, interpretive services and student guides are available when our visitor centres are open. Check our hours, addresses and contact information.


Canadian National Vimy Memorial

Tunnel and trench tours take place every 30 minutes from the opening of the Visitor Education Centre until 30 minutes before closing. For more information, please check our Visitor Education Centre’s hours of operation.

Visitors who wish to visit the Grange tunnel should expect:

  • uneven terrain,
  • enclosed spaces,
  • and a descent of up to 10 metres.

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for every two children) to take part in the tunnel tour.

Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial

Tours are approximately 45-minutes long and generally begin every hour on the hour from the opening of the Visitor Centre until one hour before closing. For more information, please check our Visitor Centre’s hours of operation.
