National Peacekeepers Day – August 9, 2017

Transcript
A MESSAGE FROM : The Honourable Kent Hehr, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence NATIONAL PEACEKEEPRS DAY Today, on National Peacekeepers Day, we honour and remember all Canadian peacekeepers for their work across the globe in support of peace, democracy, and human rights. Did you know that more than 125,000 Canadian women and men have served in peacekeeping and peacemaking operations? Our country has played a leading role in peacekeeping through the decades. In fact, Canada's Lester B. Pearson proposed the first large-scale United Nations peacekeeping force during the Suez Crisis of the 1950s---and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. Since that time, brave Canadians dedicated their lives to making a difference for citizens around the world who have been devastated by conflict. I commend all Canadian peacekeepers—past and present—for their efforts in restoring and preserving peace and security around the world. #rememberthem veterans.gc.ca Canada
