Privacy Notice and Consent

Please be advised that all persons planning to attend commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy at the Juno Beach Centre in France on June 6th, 2024, will be required to provide certain pieces of personal information to register for the events.

Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) will collect the registration information for all people interested in attending the commemorative events and may disclose the collected information to the French authorities (via the Canadian Embassy in France). The information collected, in accordance with Order-in-Council 1965-688, may be used by VAC, the Canadian Embassy in France and the French authorities to determine admissibility and to issue electronic tickets to the Government of Canada ceremony. VAC may disclose personal information collected for the June 6, 2024, Government of Canada events to a third-party contractor in order to issue tickets for those events that require an electronic ticket or badge. Information shared may include first name, last name, date of birth, place of birth, citizenship and email address.

VAC understands its obligations and the entitlements of European Union citizens related to the European Union General Data Protection Regulations.

Under the Privacy Act, you have the right to request access to your personal information held by VAC and to request corrections should you believe the information you provided contains errors or omissions. The information collected by VAC, however, will be disclosed to the Canadian Embassy in France and the French authorities. While the information is in their possession, it may not be given the same protection as it is given when in VAC’s possession. The Canadian Embassy and the French authorities will destroy any personal information in their possession immediately following each event. Personal information will be stored on a secure server at VAC and will be destroyed two years after the last administrative use of the information.

If you are concerned with VAC’s handling of your personal information, you have the right to complain to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at 30 Victoria Street, Gatineau, Quebec, K1A 1H3.
