Location:

Leubringhen is a village in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais, halfway between Calais and Boulogne. The Calais Canadian War Cemetery is in Leubringhen and is situated on the east side of the Calais-Boulogne road, 14 kilometres from Calais. From Calais leave the motorway at junction 9 and turn left onto the N3-E402 toward St Inglevert. Proceed through the village and immediately after, turn first left over motorway bridge and follow the road for approximately 250 metres. The Calais Canadian War Cemetery will be found on the left.

P/O Sinclair served on 427 Squadron and was Air Gunner on Halifax LW 114.  On 11 May 1944, the crew was airborne 2220 from their home base at RAF Leeming to bomb the railway yards at Boulogne.  Sadly, the aircraft apparently collided with a Halifax aircraft from 432 Squadron, both machines crashing le Portel (Pas-de-Calais), SW of the entrance to Boulogne-sur-Mer harbour.  The airmen from both crews were buried in the Calais Canadian War Cemetery with P/O Sinclair.  They are:

F/L (P) David H. Perry, age 26, from Freeport, Digby Co., N. S.
F/O (BA) John A. C. Brown, age 30, from Vancouver, B. C.
P/O (WAG) Stanley F. Ellis, age 21, from Quill Lake, Sask.
P/O (AG) Colin B. Lamb, from New Toronto, Ont.

RAF Flight Engineer Sgt. J. N. Craig of Middlesex  is buried in Marquise Communal Cemetery and U.S. airman, 1Lt. R. E. Stevens, USAAF, is buried in his home state of Oregon.

The crew of Halifax III NA-500, 432 Squadron, were airborne at 2257 on 11th May from their home base at East Moor.  They were:
Canadians S/Ldr (P) Clayton K. Barrett; F/O (N) Douglas G. Bentley; F/O (BA) Thomas A. Goundrey; P/O (AG) Alexander Hamilton; P/O (AG) James S. Thomson; and RAF members P/O W. W. Shaw; F/Sgt. G. E. Coe; F/Sgt. W. H. Riding.

S/Ldr. Barrett is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.  P/O W. W. Shaw is buried in the Marquise Communal Cemetery, and the rest of the crew have been re-interred in the Canadian War Cemetery at Calais.
