Language selection

National Aboriginal Veterans Memorial

Veterans Affairs Canada is aware that the language used to refer to the Indigenous peoples who live in our country has evolved over the years. We have used the terms “Indigenous”, “First Nations”, “Métis” and “Inuit” as much as possible in this publication. However in situations where direct quotations are being cited, references made to the official names of organizations or departments at the time, and in certain other historical contexts, the terminology of the day has been retained.
