Quiz Show (15 minutes)
Have the participants form pairs and distribute a copy of the Canada Remembers the Battle of Passchendaele historical sheet to each pair. Give them 5 minutes to read the sheet, telling the youth to feel free to highlight any key facts, dates, places, numbers or other important details. Then have the participants put away their information sheets and begin the ‘Quiz Show’ activity. Divide the class into four teams. Have the members of each team line up in single file and have each team’s row face the front of the room.
Begin a game show-type quiz where the 'moderator' asks questions taken from the content in the information sheet, using the suggested twenty-five questions provided. [Answers here.] For each turn, the four people at the front of each line raise their hand or otherwise 'buzz in' for a chance to answer the question (the first person to raise his or her hand gets the first opportunity to respond). If a team gets an answer correct, they earn the point. If a person answers incorrectly, the other three people at the front of their team’s lines have the chance to buzz in again. If no 'contestants' know the correct answer, the moderator provides it and goes on to the next question. After each question, the person at the front of each line goes to the back of the line and four new people step forward. In this way, all team members take a turn answering until all of the questions have been asked. Tally the scores of each team and declare a champion (if desired, a fun prize could be offered to the winning team).
