Airborne 2253 24 May 44 from Leeming on a mission to Aachen, it was shot down in flames by a night fighter. Abandoned at 8,000 feet, it crashed into the Emilia Polder, some 6 km NW of Oosterhout. Those killed are now buried in Jonkerbos War Cemetery, being brought here from the Roman Catholic Cemetery at Oosterhout. Two members of the RCAF were killed. They were WO2 A.J.Murphy and F/S J.R.H.Cochrane. One Canadian, P/O A. C. Shierlaw survived and was taken PoW. Two RAF crew were killed: F/L T.Rawlinson DFC and P/O A.Bates. RAF P/O W.J.Bush successfully evaded until captured in Antwerp 15 Jun 44 and was then interned in Camp L3. PoW No.3686, joining P/O G.L.Caunt, PoW No.5790. Canadian P/O A.C.Shierlaw was also captured in Antwerp 15Jun44 and interned in Camp L3, PoW No.6392. (Source: //lostbombers.co.uk)
