Gesgapegiag's war memorial is in the old Gesgapegiag cemetery. The two granite stones honour Mi'kmaq members of the Gesgapegiag First Nations reserve on the south shore of the Gaspésie, and the greater district of Gespe'gewa'gi who entered military service in the Boer War, World War I, World War II, and Korea and in particular those who died in service.  

Sergeant Frank Narcisse Jérome of Quebec, one of Canada’s most heroic soldiers of the First World War, was a member of the Gesgapegiag First Nation. He was one of only 39 Canadians to receive the Military Medal three times during the First World War. Despite being wounded in action, he survived the conflict to return home in 1919.
