Clapperton Road honours George Alexander Clapperton and family. It is located on their former ranch site. The City of Kamloops Heritage Commission initiated the Veterans Street Sign project to promote public awareness of the City’s heritage. To honour their Veterans the City of Kamloops added a poppy symbol to the Clapperton Road street sign in honour of Sergeant Russell Haigh Clapperton. Russell was George's nephew who died while serving with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in the Second World War.
