The 75th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands and V-E Day

History

Beginning in the fall of 1944 through the spring of 1945, close to 175,000 Canadians took part in the campaign to liberate the Netherlands. More than 7,600 made the ultimate sacrifice.

Government of Canada delegation

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands and the end of the Second World War in Europe, an official Canadian delegation will travel to Europe.

The delegation will include Veterans of the Liberation of the Netherlands, their caregivers, representatives from Veterans’ and Indigenous organizations, and Canadian youth.


Travel subsidy

Canadian and Allied Veterans of the Liberation of the Netherlands who are not travelling with the official delegation may qualify for a travel subsidy to attend events in the Netherlands or in Canada.

Events

The 75th anniversary of Canada’s involvement in the Liberation of the Netherlands and the end of the Second World War in Europe (V-E Day) will be marked by events in Canada and overseas.

An official government delegation will also travel to the Netherlands and participate in a number of ceremonies to commemorate this important milestone.
