Remembrance Popsicle Kites

Materials:

  • Standard or long popsicle sticks
  • Colourful construction paper/cardstock
  • Party streamers, ribbon or tissue paper cut in long strips
  • Glue
  • A roll of string or ribbon
  • One-hole punch

Step 1: Use the popsicle sticks you have on hand to make a template for your small kites.

Step 2: Using the template, the students trace the kite shape onto colourful construction paper or cardstock.

Step 3: Students cut out the kites and draw their remembrance symbol/picture or write their remembrance message on the kite.

Step 4: On the reverse side, students glue the popsicle sticks on the kite, starting with the vertical stick first.

Step 5: Pass out the streamers, ribbons or long strips of tissue paper for the students to glue to the ends of their kites.

Step 6: Punch a small hole near the top of the kite, just off to one side of the vertical popsicle stick. Hang the kite from the ceiling. If you cannot hang from the ceiling, the kites will look great on a mural of blue on the wall. Add some clouds for effect!
