Location:

Wimereux is a small town situated about 5 kilometres north of Boulogne. From Boulogne take the A16 to Calais and come off at Junction 4. Take the road to Wimereux north, D242, for approximately 2 kilometres, following the road through the roundabout. Take the first turn on the left immediately after the roundabout and the WIMEREUX COMMUNAL CEMETERY lies approximately 200 metres down this road on the left hand side. The Commonwealth War Graves are situated to the rear of the communal cemetery.

  • Grave marker– John Hunter Shaw's grave marker visited July 2005 by Patti Ellison-Pierce and family (my grandmother Mary Isabella Shaw Ellison was his younger half-sister)
  • Cemetery– Looking toward John Hunter Shaw's grave marker, right below the John McCrae Memorial.  Over the wall of the Wimereux Cemetery is a view of the English Channel.
  • Memorial– This memorial to John McCrae is just to the left of John Hunter Shaw's grave marker.  John McCrae's grave marker is also in Wimereux Cemetery but is closer to the large cross in the centre.
  • Cemetery– This shows the lower part of the Wimereux Communal Cemetery with the WWI graves.  Above the lavender out of view to the right is the local Wimereux Cemetery.
