Commonwealth Memorial (Pusan)

In the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Pusan, Korea, stands a memorial to Commonwealth soldiers whose burial places are unknown. The inscription reads:

ON THIS MEMORIAL ARE INSCRIBED THE NAMES OF MEN FROM BRITAIN, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND AND SOUTH AFRICA WHO DIED IN THE KOREAN WAR AND HAVE NO KNOWN GRAVE. THEY DIED WITH MEN OF OTHER COUNTRIES FIGHTING TO UPHOLD THE IDEALS OF THE UNITED NATIONS

The Memorial is of stone on a low base with bronze panels listing the names, 16 of who are Canadian.

The cemetery is a place of peace and tranquility. More than 10,000 trees and shrubs, donated by many countries, have been planted to enhance the beauty of the site.

Directions

This memorial is located in the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Pusan, Korea, on the southern tip of the Korean Peninsula. From Gimhae Airport, take an Airport Limousine Bus for "Namchun-dong and Haeundae", get off at "Namchun-dong" and transfer to a taxi. From Gimhae Airport by Bus No. 201, 157-1, get off at "Seomyeon" and transfer to a taxi. From Busan Station by bus no. 134, get in the side of Busan Station (don't cross the road) and get off at "UN Memorial Cemetery" Station. From Busan Station by taxi, get in the side of Busan Station and tell a taxi driver to please go the main gate of the UN Memorial Cemetery.
