I worked with the army reserve in Newfoundland and while I was there I got a phone call. Myself and another Canadian officer who I went to staff college with, a chap by the name of Paul Zmean. Poor Paul was always the last guy in the line when it came to pay parade, with a name like Z-m-e-a-n. But Paul and I were asked to go to the Middle East, the Sinai and lay out on the ground and write the operation order for the movement of UN troops to take over after the Yom Kippur or October War, depending what side you were on what you called it. It was very interesting. We wrote the, what became known as the ‘Moon Glow, Moon Rise, Moon Set’ operation orders that moved the troops down into the desert and laid it out and handed the territory that the Israelis had conquered back to the Egyptians and move the Bedouin around, got them back to where they were and the oil, handed over the oil fields down in Abu Rudies and places like that. And it was quite an interesting time and we did it and got the orders written. In fact, the basic organization is still being done there by an international organization, the one that was based on the one that we wrote up.
