The day I got my discharge was the day I got a diamond ring! My husband didn’t know. He thought I was in Lachine getting my release and it’s ten o’clock in the morning I got to have my dental check and there’s about ten people ahead and he walked in the door. I was the next person in the dental chair. “Out!” Went into Montreal West, had dinner, got the diamond ring in the back of a taxi, and we’re married 62 years ago this month. And then, as you know, I was a military spouse for four years in France after that. My husband had been sent down to Sardinia. I was left with my four children in a French village to fend for myself. When we came back to Canada it was three o’clock in the morning when we arrived in Trenton. I really felt like getting down and kissing the ground.
