My first training location was in Brandon, Manitoba which was a center for, receiving center for, well normally I think army called it a boot camp but air force did not, it was a manning depot where young boys who have just been recruited, they provided training, basic training from being a civilian to being someone in armed forces. From there now my preference was to start pilot training which to some extent I did up to ground school but from then on I wasn’t selected for flying duties as a student pilot. Instead I was given preference of going as a full navigator or bomb aimer and air gunner. Now from basic training, I attended ground school in Regina and there ground school provided you your basic training for your arterial flight, your study of medical conditions, the history of the air force and just knowledge prior to being, starting flying duties so... It was there at that school that they selected the air crew trades. Now air crew trades were pilot, navigator, air gunner, radio operator and from there on we were sent to various training schools to continue whatever career you were sent to. From Regina, I attended a bombing and gunnery school in West Bank, Saskatchewan. A bomb aimer on a Lancaster crew was also assistant navigator so bombing and gunnery school provided you with your training for bomb aiming and your firing of machine guns and from then on you were sent to an air observer school which I attended at Winnipeg, flier/air observer school and that completed bomb aimers course.
