Description
Mr. McAuley discusses the Japanese-imposed consequences of escaping.
Transcription
There was three guys that tried to escape and they got caught and brought back and killed, murdered actually, they got murdered and dumped on the parade square. They just dumped them on the square for us to see and that's the time they said, like me, I was responsible for ten men, another sergeant was responsible for ten men they laid off. For every man that escaped one would be killed and they laid that law down, so then there would be no point in anybody else trying to escape. The thought of escaping never mushroomed anymore, it was cut.
