My first tour in Bosnia really because I had my 5’s behind me, I was a Master Corporal at the time and working at a field ambulance we did a lot of training in the unit for mass casualties, for anything like bomb threats, that kind of stuff. We also went down to the local hospital in Calgary to the morgue so we got used to seeing dead bodies and physically touching them so we know what to expect because it’s a real shock if you have never seen a dead person before to all of a sudden show up to an accident and see something, a lot of emergency medical training. We were really drilled into our head emergency management, you come upon a car accident, whatever, and over and over every week that’s what we trained with. So going over to Bosnia you really felt prepared but you are never really prepared until you get there and actually see the real thing. We did a lot of the mine awareness, you know, what ground not to step on and that kind of stuff but that’s pretty much army general for the training overseas, the bomb threats and stuff like that.
