Mr. Kelly speaks about his choice to join the military.
Transcription
I had always considered a military career. I was active in cadets and that sort of thing as a youngster so I really, it was really my first priority for an occupation. And I would like to have flown airplanes but some people aren’t medically acceptable for various reasons so I ended up going into the army.
I went into what was called the Officer Candidate Plan where you do a year of training, in my case at the School of Infantry which was in Camp Borden at the time. And when you do that your instructors are officers and NCO’s from all of the regiments in the army so you get to meet and see people from the different regiments and you form impressions of them and so on. And I was very impressed with the Black Watch people who I met and who are involved in my training and I decided to go to the Black Watch and fortunately I was accepted. And the Black Watch had two battalions serving in Camp Gagetown in New Brunswick then so that’s where I went on my graduation.
