En 1978, une parcelle de terrain de forme rectangulaire située au centre de Dalhousie a été renommée « parc commémoratif Rotary » en l’honneur des anciens combattants canadiens et des soldats tués au combat. Le cénotaphe de Dalhousie se trouve dans le parc.

Lorsque la Première Guerre mondiale couta la vie à des habitants de Sackville, le parc fut dédié à leur mémoire. Avec l’ajout du cénotaphe en 1922, il fut désigné comme le parc commémoratif de la ville.

En 2010, un jardin commémoratif a été ajouté du côté est du parc et la plaque commémoratif du NCSM Sackville a été ajouté. En 2014, un monument commémoratif rendant hommage à l’Aviation royale canadienne a été érigé au jardin.

In 1921 Professor W.S. Blair and Mr. G.C. Roy brought forward the idea for a public park to be added in Kentville. The city purchased a property on Park Street and the Memorial Park Commission was formed.

Between 1922 and 1924 an athletic field, ball field, grandstand, and playground were added.

On October 18, 1954 a war memorial cenotaph was unveiled.

By 1960 a swimming pool was added.

Today the park is a focal point in the community serving for recreational activities as well as a constant reminder of remembrance.

Nommé en souvenir du capitaine d'aviation Lawrence J O'Connell, DFC, RCAF. Le quartier Westmount a été construit après la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Ses rues portent les noms de certains des militaires de Halifax tués pendant ce conflit.
