BRIG J A DE LALANNE
BUILDING

Province
Body Content

Third Battalion PPCLI Building (# 408) was named after Brigadier J.A. de Lalanne, CBE, MC, ED. When 3 PPCLI’s home was Work Point Barracks Esquimalt, BC, their new Lecture Training Facility was named after Brigadier J.A. de Lalanne. However, in 1995, when Work Point Barracks was handed over to the Navy, it was renamed after one of the Navy’s distinguished Admirals. In 1996 when the Third Battalion’s new home became Edmonton Garrison, the new building was renamed after Brigadier J.A. de Lalanne. Brigadier de Lalanne commenced service in World War One as a private and later a sergeant in the Regiment. He was commissioned in 1916 and, as a lieutenant, was awarded the Military Cross in 1917 and a bar as a captain in 1918. During World War Two, he served as a Brigadier at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa.

The bronze disk set on a raised plinth in the plaza center of Patricia Park depicts the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry badge. In the plinth base is a time capsule containing regimental artifacts and items of significance donated by Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry members in 2014. The memorial is surrounded by paving stones with names of key Regimental members who have helped contribute to the celebration of the 100th Anniversary.

Private’s Cole Lisowski, Mark Brushett and Dylan Renaud, three young serving soldiers of the Regiment, assisted in placing the time capsule in the memorial. The intention is for these soldiers to be present when the time capsule is opened at the Regiment’s 150th Anniversary Celebration in 2064.

L'AVENUE COMMÉMORATIVE

Province
Body Content

The National Métis Veterans' Memorial Monument has been engraved in honour of all Métis veterans. The monument has taken years of planning and fundraising. It was first unveiled in July, 2014, marking the achievement of its installation at Batoche. The names of veterans have been collected over many years of research and collaboration with others as well as submissions from the friends and families of Métis veterans. While it is sad to acknowledge that thousands of Métis deserve the inscription, we are proud to honour and commemorate over 5,000 veterans with this first engraving on the monument. Fundraising for the monument's upkeep and future engravings will be ongoing so veterans who are unknown to us at this time can be added in years to come. The monument will forever be a place to pay our respects to Métis servicemen and servicewomen.
