Code Title and description of Mandate Letter Commitment (MLC) referenced in the report
MLC1 Reduce Wait Times
  • Reduce wait times and ensure Veterans and their families receive decisions on applications in a timely manner, including by investing resources to hire case workers and adjudicators, enhance disability benefit processing and advance innovative digital solutions.
MLC2 Military Sexual Misconduct (led by the Department of National Defence)
  • Expand the services and resources available to survivors of sexual misconduct through the Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre.
  • Ensure Centre access for Defence Team, including Department of National Defence employees, Veterans and members of military families.
  • Co-design with survivors and fully fund a permanent peer-to-peer support program for those who have experienced military sexual trauma that is available to all members of the Defence Team and their families.
MLC3 Underrepresented Veterans
  • Ensure the benefit system and services are responsive to and meet the needs of underrepresented Veterans, including women, 2SLGBTQI+, racialized and Indigenous Veterans. This will include the use of disaggregated research and data to provide tailored programs and services.
MLC4 Indigenous Veterans
  • Work to reduce barriers to accessing services for Indigenous Veterans, including improving outreach to Indigenous communities and expanding the offering of culturally appropriate services.
MLC5 Veteran Employment
  • Launch a National Veterans Employment Strategy, with a goal of ensuring all Veterans find meaningful work on release from the Canadian Armed Forces, leveraging skills and qualifications acquired while in service. This includes working to improve qualification recognition.
MLC6 Transition Support
  • Continue to work with the Minister of National Defence to simplify processes, improve service delivery and strengthen transition services by enhancing shared online tools, increasing data sharing and improving transition support.
MLC7 Mental Health
  • With the support of Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, ensure Canadian Armed Forces members and Veterans have access to adequate mental health resources, services and training programs tailored to their specific needs.
MLC8 Recognition & Commemoration
  • Ensure that modern Veterans, as well as women, Indigenous, racialized and 2SLGBTQI+ Veterans from all conflicts are recognized and commemorated and that we recognize the valuable contributions of Canadian Armed Forces Veterans who have served our country in domestic operations such as wildfires, ice storms and floods.
MLC9 Veteran Homelessness
  • Accelerate work to end chronic homelessness among Veterans through a new rent supplement program and wrap around supports (led by Infrastructure Canada).
  • Accelerate work to end chronic homelessness among Veterans through the Rapid Housing Initiative and a dedicated stream of funding for Veterans within the National Housing Co-Investment Fund (led by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation).
