Overview:

Fredericton Homeless Shelters used funding from the Veteran and Family Well-Being Fund to support its “From Crisis to Home” project. This project identified Veterans who are experiencing homelessness in Fredericton and surrounding areas, and provided them with temporary housing and case management services, including supports for mental health, addiction, wellness, housing, and furniture.

Project goals:

The goal of this project was to support Veterans in the journey from homelessness to permanent housing.

Project activities:

To achieve their goal, Fredericton Homeless Shelter:

  • Provided spaces that are clean, safe and stable and included basic needs (beds, showers, laundry facilities, kitchen facilities, internet, television, computers;
  • Established a women’s clothing bank for clean seasonal clothing and toiletries;
  • Assisted with administrative tasks such as obtaining bus passes, managing medication, and securing ID and other needed documentation;
  • Provided in-house mental health support services;
  • Established an outreach team who have regular contact with the homeless community and provided post-shelter support; and
  • Employed service delivery coordinators who established connections and work toward coordinating permanent housing.

Project results:

Fredericton Homeless Shelters achieved their goal by obtaining stable housing and providing ongoing supports for 14 Veterans.
