The Battle of the Scheldt

The Battle of the Scheldt raged in Belgium and the Netherlands in the fall of 1944. This campaign was one of the most bitter struggles of the entire Second World War and saw the First Canadian Army play a leading role in clearing German forces from the shores of the Scheldt River. Victory came at a great cost but capturing the Scheldt allowed the Allies to access the major port of Antwerp so they could deliver the vital supplies that were needed to keep their troops fighting in Northwest Europe.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Scheldt. How will you remember?
