When the crash come at the... I had finished my training flight and we had to train every night before the night flying and we did it in the daytime and I had finished my training flight and one of the other pilots was taxiing in and we didn't see him and he didn't see us and he crashed into us and he killed one person and broke the neck of an Australian pilot who was in the car with me. And then I had my accident where I lost my fingers and broke my femur and also a bashed up head really, really bad, my eyebrow was twisted up there pretty badly but they thought I was gonna die anyway so they didn't bother doing too much at that time. But I spent 13 weeks in hospital recovering from the femur and then went back flying and then all of a sudden they decided that I should go to East Grinstead and see the Dr. Tilley there and get my eyebrow straightened up and clean up my face, which I did do.

Orvel Dove

Mr. Orvel Dove was born in Innisfree, Alberta November 26, 1921. After graduating from high school, Mr. Dove decided to join the air force. With the hope of becoming a pilot, Mr. Dove traveled to Regina Saskatchewan for training, received his wings and became a night-fighter pilot with the RAF 256 Squadron. On February 10, 1942, while testing aircraft, Mr. Dove was involved in an accident and convalesced at East Grinstead Hospital in England. Upon recovery, Mr. Dove spent the remainder of his war time with Ferry Command, ferrying single-engine aircraft. Later in life and because of his wonderful experiences at East Grinstead Hospital, he became a member of the Guinea Pig Club and continues to share friendships forged during those years. Mr. Dove married after the war and moved to Kamloops, British Columbia.
