Calling Out for my Life!

When I got hurt in Afghanistan and I thought I was gonna die. I got stuck in a vehicle. It was, I say a stupid accident. I get told I shouldn't say that. I moved a vehicle and I dropped the keys and they had gone under the seat and I used the hydraulic lever to raise the seat to get the keys and I didn't move out of the way fast enough and it pinned me to the hull of a Bison so I got stuck there and called for help and stuff and I gave up and relaxed and the seat raised some more making it harder to breath and then I realized I want to live so I carried on yelling for help and somebody finally heard me. And she got somebody that knew how to operate the vehicle and they got the seat lowered, but I hurt my shoulder and I ended up with PTSD. I got sent home early. I had two weeks of my tour left and they made me come home but I felt like I'd let the guys down because I was there to do a job and I wasn't doing it, you know, I couldn't function and that's a bad side but it's also almost a good side because it got me back into reality.

Sara Berkshire

Ms. Sara Berkshire was born August 5, 1964 in Comox, British Columbia. Growing up in a military family, Sara was very interested in serving her country, wanting to make it her number one goal in life! To begin her military career, Sara briefly joined Cadets. Later on, she enlisted with the Army as a Communication Researcher holding rank of Corporal. As well as serving In-Canada, Sara served on missions to Kabul, Afghanistan. After being medically discharged in 2008, Sara left the Canadian Forces after 17 years service. Sara now resides in Kingston, Ontario.
