Chief Petty Officer (Pilot Officer) Herbert George Clark Mitchell was shot down during the Palembang bombing raid on the oil refineries supplying the Japanese forces around occupied Indonesia. He was piloting an Avenger and he and his crew members were thought to be injured by fighters attacking their flight while bombing the oil refineries. His crew consisted of observer Sub-Lt. Arthur Hemington RNVR (21) and telegraphist/air gunner Leading Airman Clifford Harris (20). Other members of the bombing mission said that Mitchells plane seemed to be having trouble keeping up with the others and fell back from the formation returning to their carrier HMS Indefatigable. The plane could have ditched in the ocean or on a beach but in any case the crew died either at the hands of their captors or in the crash.

CIMETIÈRE DE GUERRE DE JAKARTA Indonésie
Le cimetière de guerre de Jakarta est dans la banlieue de Menteng Poeloe, à 11 kilomètres du centre-ville. Il jouxte le champ d'honneur des Pays-Bas, Jakarta Selatam (Jakarta-Sud).
On peut s'y rendre en prenant deux route principales - Jalan Dr Saharto et Jalan Casablanca.
On entre dans le cimetière de guerre de Jakarta du côté nord par un court escalier qui mène à l'édifice commémoratif.
L'entrée est en face d'un vieux cimetière civil. À cet endroit, des colporteurs du marché local étalent souvent leurs marchandises, bloquant ainsi en partie l'accès au cimetière.
Le nom régional du cimetière est Makam Perang Jakarta.
