Fils de Kristian Martin et Berthilde (née Johnson) Birkland, de Calgary, Alberta. Frère de Hans, Elmer, Kristian, Lawrence, Martha et Anne.
Le capitaine d'aviation Birkland a été honoré le 7 septembre 2002 et un lac porte maintenant son nom. Il fut l'un des six aviateurs abattus après avoir été recapturé à la suite d'une évasion de Stalag Luft 3. Une garde du drapeau de la 4e Escadre des Forces armées à Cold Lake faisait partie de la garde d'honneur. Des survivants de la famille et des représentants du gouvernement ont également assisté à la cérémonie.

Memorial Cairn commemorating Flight Lieutenant Henry Birkland of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Birkland Lake was named after him and it was dedicated to him on September 7, 2002.<P> The name of this lake was bestowed by the Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographical Names (now the Geographical Names Board of Canada). The Memorial Cairns Project was conducted by the Airman's Memorial Cairns Committee, Royal Canadian Legion, McGrane Branch No 28, Lac La Biche, Alberta.

CIMETIÈRE DE LA VIEILLE GARNISON DE POZNAN Pologne
Poznan (ou Posen), qui est la capitale de la province de la Posnanie, est une ville épiscopale située sur la rivière Warta. Le cimetière de la vieille garnison se trouve du côté nord de la ville.
