Lancaster I NG233 of 433 Squadron was on a mine-laying operation in Kattegat, Denmark. It took off from Skipton-on-Swale at 17:46 and was attacked by a German nightfighter at 21:27 hours. The Lancaster crashed burning into the sea off As Hoved on position 55`44`38N 10`08`20E killing the crew of seven.<P>
The body of Air Bomber F/O Arthur V. Plante was found washed ashore in As Vig on 27/5. He was laid to rest in Horsens cemetery on 31/5. On 3/8 1945 a memorial was erected. Mosignore Olrik held a speech and blessed the grave in accordance with Catholic rites. Present were the towns Mayor J. Chr. Juliussen and a RAF officer from Aarhus.
