Leading Stoker JOHN MCGREGOR LAING was one of four members of the crew of HMCS Matane who were killed when the frigate was struck by a glider bomb, launched by a Dornier 217, in the Bay of Biscay, South of the Brest Peninsula on July 20, 1944.
