Maj Kenneth Carruthers was a member of the class of 1908 at the Royal Military College of Canada, Cadet # 658. He served with Canadian Field Artillery 5th Bde. On 28th October 1917, he was Mentioned in Despatches. He died on October 28, 1917. He was buried in Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, Belgium, Ieper West-Vlaanderen. His name is listed on the memorial arch at the Royal Military College of Canada. 658 Major Kenneth Burpee Carruthers (RMC 1904) was born at Kingston, Ontario on June 30th, 1885. He studied at the Royal Military College of Canada. He earned a B.Sc from McGill University in 1908. He was appointed Captain in the Canadian Field Artillery, 26th Battery. on June 2nd 1915. He transferred to the 20th Battery with the rank of Major. He was Mentioned in Despatches. He served in France during the Great War. He was wounded on May 3rd, 1917. He was killed in action at Passchendaele on October 28, 1917. His grave reference is XI. E. 7. in the Vlamertinghe New Military Cermetery in Belgium. He is commemorated on the Memorial Arch at the Royal Military College of Canada, and on page 213 of the First World War Book of Remembrance.

NOUVEAU CIMETIÈRE MILITAIRE DE VLAMERTINGE Belgique
Le nouveau cimetière militaire de Vlamertinge est à 5 kilomètres à l'ouest du centre-ville d'Ypres et au sud du village de Vlamertinge. Ce village se trouve sur la Poperingseweg. (* Vlamertinge s'écrivait autrefois Vlamertinghe.)
À partir du centre-ville d'Ypres, rendez-vous sur la Poperingseweg (N308) par la Elverdingsestraat en passant au-dessus de deux petits carrefours giratoires sur la J. Capronstraat. La Poperingseweg est le prolongement de la J.Capronstraat et débute après un important passage à niveau.
Dans le village de Vlamertinge, tournez à gauche sur la Hugo Verriestraat. Cette route traverse la voie ferrée et la route principale N38. À cet endroit, le nom de la rue devient Bellestraat. Après avoir traversé la route N38, le cimetière se trouve du côté gauche de cette rue, à 200 mètres.
On peut se rendre au cimetière en empruntant un sentier herbeux qui passe entre deux maisons. Ce sentier ne convient pas aux voitures.
