F/O Gordon, age 21, served in 427 Squadron on Halifax aircraft MZ 757. The crew was airborne 2225 on 28 July 1944 from Leeming on a night operation to Hamburg, Germany. Their aircraft was damaged by Flak and shot down by a German night-fighter crashing 0117 onto the Howaldtwerf at Hamburg. On this attack, RCAF Bomber Command 6 Group suffered their highest losses. 22 crews failed to return.
The Gordon family had already suffered the lost of their son, F/Sgt (P) David William Gordon, age 21, who was killed on a Beaufort aircraft with two RAF members when it crashed on the aerodrome at Takoradi, Ghana, Africa on December 8, 1942.

CIMETIÈRE D'HAMBOURG Allemagne
Ohlsdorf est un village sur la rivière d'Alster, à environ 9 km au nord-est de la ville d'Hambourg du côté est de l'aéroport de la ville. En venant de Hanovre ou de Kiel, quittez l'autoroute A7 à la sortie 432 en suivant les indications pour l'aéroport (Flughaven). Après 2 km, tournez à droite sur la Swebenweg qui, plus loin, converge avec la Krohnstieg et passe sous la piste de l'aéroport. Après 4 km, tournez à droite sur la chaussée 433. Deux kilomètres plus loin, tournez à gauche sur l'Erdkampsweg en suivant les indications vers Barmbek. Continuez le long de cette route pendant 1,7 km, puis tournez immédiatement à droite avant un pont ferroviaire important sur une route qui s'appelle I.M. Grunen Grund. Six cents mètres plus loin, tournez à gauche sur l'Alsterdorfer. Le CIMETIÈRE D'HAMBOURG est situé dans cette rue à l'intersection de la Fuhlsbuttlerstrasse.
Le lot de la Commission est annoncé dans le CIMETIÈRE D'HAMBOURG et se trouve à 300 mètres de la chapelle. À noter que la visite du cimetière est réservée aux heures normales ouverture.
