Aviateur de 2e classe John De Lucia
Born in Ortona, Italy Sept 14, 1913, son of Rocco and Maria; family came to Canada when he was 13 yrs. old and settled in Niagara Falls. Attended Public and High Schools; received a scholarship to study Latin, French, German, Italian and Spanish at Syracuse University; enlisted with the RCAF in May 1942; because of this languages skills was trained at Camp-X in Oshawa and later took S.O.E. training; parachuted into N. Italy, near Verona; worked with partisan, fighting the enemy with acts of sabotage.
During a skirmish with the Germans he was captured, beaten, imprisoned and sentenced to be executed. He was killed by a firing squad on May 13 1944 in Verona. John’s last letter to his family read: It was expected and I'm ready to face it. I die happily. He was initially buried in Verona; after the war ended, his body was exhumed and re-interred at Padua War Cemetery.

Cimetière de guerre de Padoue Italie
Le cimetière militaire de Padoue est situé dans la commune et la province de Padoue. Sur l'autoroute A13, sortir à « Padoue Sud » (Padova Sud), puis suivre la direction Vicenza jusqu'à la SS11. Ou encore, sur l'autoroute A4, sortir à « Padoue Ouest » (Padova Ovest) et rouler vers le sud jusqu'à la SS11, puis à l'ouest vers Vicenza. À partir de Padoue, se rendre jusqu'à la via Chiesanuova (SS11) et, à environ 2 kilomètres du centre-ville, tourner à droite dans la via della Biscia et rouler jusqu'au cimetière, qu'on trouve à droite. On rend hommage, sur ce site, à plus de 500 victimes de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, dont 32 non identifiées. Le cimetière militaire de Padoue est ouvert en permanence et peut être visité en tout temps.
