Bank of Hamilton War Memorial Plaque. The Bank of Hamilton (1872-1924)
headquarters was located during the first World War at King and James
Street, Hamilton, Ontario. Many of the men listed on this memorial were
employed at Bank of Hamilton branches located across Canada. The Bank
merged with the Canadian Bank of Commerce in 1924.

Cadet Angelo Neylan was born in Collingwood, Ontario. His surname was published incorrectly in this August 11th, 1917 newspaper article. Neylan originally enlisted with the 220th York Rangers Overseas Battalion C.E.F. in May 1916. In honoured memory.

This report appeared on page 1 of the August 16, 1917 issue of the Barrie Examiner newspaper (Barrie, Ontario). Note: (1) Camp Hoare was the Royal Flying Corps airfield at Camp Borden, west of Barrie, named in honour of Lieutenant-Colonel (later Brigadier-General) C.G. Hoare, the commanding officer of the RFC in Canada; (2) Ivy is a small rural community east of Borden and southwest of Barrie.

Note: (1) Camp Hoare was the Royal Flying Corps airfield at Camp Borden, west of Barrie, named in honour of Lieutenant-Colonel (later Brigadier-General) C.G. Hoare, the commanding officer of the RFC in Canada; (2) Ivy is a small rural community east of Borden and southwest of Barrie.

Cadet Neylan's grave, marked by a standard Commonwealth War Graves Commission headstone, lies within the Neylan family's plot in St. Margaret's Cemetery, Yonge Street, Midland, Ontario. A personal inscription near he bottom of the headstone reads, "LATE LIEUTENANT THE SIMCOE FORESTERS." (The Simcoe Foresters was the local militia regiment.) (Image taken by Gregory J. Cadet Neylan is also commemorated on a family memorial, located a few feet from his grave in St. Margaret's Cemetery, Yonge Street, Midland, Ontario. An inscription reads, "ANGELO. - SON OF MICHAEL A. & MARIA NEYLAN, OCT. 10, 1894 - AUG. 11, 1917." Other family members commemorated on this memorial include Cadet Neylan's parents, Michael A. Neylan (1859-1932) and Maria Neylan (nee Anderson) (1885-1937), and his siblings John D. Neylan (1891-1918), Frederick Neylan (1900-1935), Marie A. Neylan (1901-1979) and Marion E.
