Derek Speirs

Derek Speirs is a 22-year Veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces nominated for his fighting spirit as well as for his involvement with the UN NATO group.

He has been a member of the group for over seven years. The group’s mission is to bring Veterans out of isolation and to try to give them a new purpose in life. He became President of Veterans UN NATO Canada, Estrie Region, in 2019 and is involved with many of the organization’s events, including dinners, commemorative events and activities that support Veterans in need.

In 2018, he proudly represented Canada in three separate sports at the Invictus Games in Sydney, Australia.

Since his retirement from the Forces, he has always been available to help serving and retired members transition to civilian life.
