Louise Bauder

Gibbons, Alberta

Louise Bauder has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 226 Gibbons, for 37 years. Since 2001, she has volunteered as the poppy chair and remembrance chair. In these roles, she has ensured that both the Poppy Campaign and Remembrance Day have been a huge success each year.

Louise Bauder seeks out advertising in local media and rallies both Legion members and the community at large to become involved. She organizes transportation for Veterans that could otherwise not attend ceremonies and Legion luncheons. She prints programs, organizes a bugler and seeks members of the Canadian Armed Forces to attend.

For local schools, Louise finds Legion members to attend Remembrance Day ceremonies and canvasses the five schools to participate in the annual Remembrance Poster Contest. She also organizes local cadets to go door-to-door to distribute poppies and seek donations.

Throughout the year, Louise works closely with the Service Officer to make sure Veterans who are in need are provided the assistance they require as soon as possible.

In the 20 plus years of Louise volunteering with The Royal Canadian Legion, there has been a noticeable increase in Veteran awareness in her town.
