Community Engagement

Community Engagement funding supports organizations undertaking remembrance initiatives including commemorative activities or the development of commemorative materials.

Who can apply?

To be eligible, the project must commemorate the achievements and sacrifices of those who served Canada since Confederation (1867). Eligible recipients can be non-profit or for-profit organizations, in Canada or abroad, as well as Canadian provinces, territories and municipalities. Projects must also be of a finite duration, with clear start and end dates.

Our application process has changed! We’ve launched a new online portal that will make it easier for you to submit your application.

Please review the guidelines and apply through the virtual portal. You can submit your funding application and supporting documents through the portal.

Please note that we no longer accept applications by mail or email.

Application deadlines

Please note it may take up to three months to process your application and for a final decision to be rendered. You will be notified when a decision is made.
Applications continue to be accepted on an on-going basis for requests of $10,000 or less and should be submitted at least three months before the project start date.

• Up to a maximum of $5,000 for local projects
• Up to a maximum of $10,000 for regional projects

To be considered, applications must be duly completed. Veterans Affairs Canada will acknowledge receipt of applications and may solicit additional information. Only applications deemed complete will be assessed. Veterans Affairs Canada aims to notify applicants in writing of its funding decision within 12 weeks, provided that an application is deemed complete.

No. 2 Construction Battalion commemorative projects

The Commemorative Partnership Program is accepting applications for projects honouring No. 2 Construction Battalion .

Dedicated funding up to a maximum of $25,000 is available for Community Engagement projects commemorating the legacy of the No. 2 Construction Battalion.

The dedicated funding is being provided by the Department of National Defence and is being made available based on a recommendation from the National Apology Advisory Committee.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until 31 March 2024 through our online portal. Multi-year funding will be considered for projects of larger scope, reach and cost.
