Son of John Charuk and Sophie Marie Skibinsky, of Tiny, Saskatchewan.
He served in Manitoba, in Jamaica with Force Y, in Hong Kong with Force C, in Japan as prisoner of war. He had 1,530 days of service, including 766 overseas.
To commemorate his sacrifice, the Government of Manitoba named Charuk Lake, located south-east of Brereton Lake, in his honour in 1974.

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY Japan
YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.
