"Vimy Ridge is one of Earth's altars on which Canadians sacrificed for the cause of humanity"

- William Lyon Mackenzie King

Main Forces of the Triple Alliance: Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy (until 1915 when it switched sides). Canadians made preparations for the battle of Vimy Ridge on a scale never before seen. Knowledge was at the heart of these preparations. Notably, because of exceptional intelligence, Canadian artillery fire destroyed 85% of German batteries before the battle ever began.

Vimy Ridge was key to the German defence system. Hill 145, the highest point on the Ridge, was occupied by the Germans. The Canadians launched their attack on the Ridge at 5:30 a.m. on Easter Monday, April 9, 1917. By afternoon, they had taken it.
