Invictus Games 2018 - Casey and John

Transcript
CAPTAIN (RET’D) CASEY BALDEN (Team Canada Member): I’m Casey. SERGEANT (RET’D) JOHN TESCIONE (Team Canada Member): And I’m John, and we just finished doing the long jump. BALDEN: It felt pretty amazing to be performing in an Olympic venue, I’ll tell you that. SGT TESCIONE: It sure was. It was a dream come true, that’s for sure. You know, it is just like as if when I served before I think. That’s what I was missing, this camaraderie. I mean, we met... most of us met at training and it feels like as if we’ve known each other forever. It’s phenomenal. CAPT BALDEN: One of the strengths I think that Team Canada has is the diversity amongst our athletes. The diversity of injuries or illnesses that brought us together and that’s something that I think really reflects Canadian values and is one of our strengths. SGT TESCIONE: I think even that was like a great starting point because most of us are shy about talking about what happened to you. You’re not really forward about your service and your injuries but it kind of broke the ice a lot of times and we just went from there and it just created a bond and I think that diversity also helped it as well. CAPT BALDEN: My daughter Inuuja’s back home in Toronto. She lives in Toronto with her mum and I just want to tell her that I love her very much and I’m very grateful to my family; my parents and my brother that were able to come to Sydney here to see me. SGT TESCIONE: I’d love to say hi to my wife Kerrie, my children Caelan and Brendan and my friends that are here: Phil Badani and Jackie. Thank you for supporting me. Share our Team Canada pride. A message from the Government of Canada.
