Invictus Games 2018: Derek Speirs

Transcript
Master Seaman (retired) Derek Speirs (Team Canada Member): Hi everyone. My name is Derek Speirs and I just finished my swim competition and it was the first time in my life that I’ve done a competition. I’m 46 years old with a broken back and I finished. I did everything. The crowd was screaming; my friends and family, the teammates, the other countries – I’m overwhelmed by everything. The experience has been amazing. Nancy (partner): I was very, very emotional when I saw him arriving for the last competition. I was asking myself if he was able to do it because I could see by his facial expression that he was really, really exhausted. I have to say that I am really, really proud of him. Stéphane (friend): That was an extraordinary event. I am really proud of you, my brother! Really proud of you. A message from the Government of Canada.
