Launch of the Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence for Canadian Veterans

Because the challenges they’ve faced are unique, our Veterans deal with chronic pain at higher rates than the rest of us. And because they’ve all served with dignity – often putting aside that pain until their mission is done – we have a responsibility to ensure that they receive the world-class care that they deserve. The Centre of Excellence is going to play a key role in ensuring that they’re able to access the support they need, no matter where they live, and I’m looking forward to seeing the positive difference that it will make in the lives of our Veterans.

Today, we mark the launch of the Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence for Canadian Veterans. This is a great day for Canada’s veterans, for McMaster University – one of the world’s great universities – and for Hamilton. Hamilton has a strong military tradition, proudly housing the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada. Veterans need and deserve treatment that is suited to their particular needs, which are different from civilians. Our nation owes you a deep debt of gratitude.This Centre’s mandate is to partner with Veterans in its research and operations so that its research findings are relevant and useful to Veterans. This is research in action to serve an honourable and patriotic group – Canada’s Veterans. You served and defended Canada. Now a grateful country is investing in helping you. Thank you for your service.

Bienvenue au Centre d’excellence sur la douleur chronique pour les vétérans canadiens. The vision of the Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence is to improve the well-being of military veterans, and their families, suffering from chronic pain. The Centre of Excellence partners directly with Veterans and their families to research techniques that can help veterans manage their chronic pain. The Centre of Excellence shares this research with a national network of interdisciplinary care teams in order to help bring care for veterans closer to home. Merci aux vétérans pour votre service.
