Premier Steward Thomas Mackay Kiddie

Son of Hugh Kiddie and Annie Campbell Scott of Dundee, Angus, Scotland. Husband of Annie Levack of Dunnet, Caithness, Scotland. Father of Daisy, Mona, Mary, Thomas Jr and Dorothy Kiddie.


He served in the Royal Navy as an Ordinary Seaman on board HMS Vivid from 24 August 1911 to 23 October 1911, then HMS Darmouth from 24 October 1911 to 13 April 1912, regimental number L3080. During the First World War, he enlisted on 23 September 1914 at Camp Valcartier in Quebec, regimental number 24444. In England, he was transferred to the 13th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. On 18 February 1915, he arrived in France. On 5 November 1917, during the Battle of Passchendale in Belgium, he was seriously gassed and burned. On 1 July 1918, he was promoted to Lance Corporal. On 2 May 1919, he was repatriated and the 4th, demobilized in Montreal. He died in Sunderland, England, of myocarditis, bronchitis and asthma.
