Cette plaque, dévoilée le 29 septembre 1985 par Reginald Janes, a été offerte à l’église St. James en l’honneur des 24 paroissiens qui ont servi dans les Forces armées canadiennes durant les Première et Seconde Guerres mondiales.

Sur la photo apparaissent Madame May Pinsent, fille de William Sheppard, blessé à Beaumont le 1er juillet 1916, Reginald Janes, ancien combattant de la Seconde guerre mondiale et le révérend Munden Waye, ministre de l’Église anglicane.

Ce mémorial a d’abord été érigé dans la communauté de Flat Islands en hommage à ceux qui ont péri durant la Première Guerre mondiale. En 1920, la Women’s Patriotic Association of Flat Islands acheta le cénotaphe et y inscrivit d’autres noms. En 1962, la filiale 41 (Eastport) de la Légion royale canadienne le relocalisa à Eastport et d’autres noms furent encore ajoutés.

Le monument commémoratif de Upper Island Cove a été érigé en hommage à ceux et celles qui ont péri durant les Première et Seconde Guerres mondiales.

Le cénotaphe a été rafraîchi avant la cérémonie du renouvellement de la dédicace qui a eu lieu le 29 juin 2017. Le comité du monument commémoratif de guerre a recueilli des dons privés de 30 000 $ et obtenu 25 000 $ de la province pour remplacer le mur de béton en train de s’effriter sur le site. Un nouveau mur de brique a été construit derrière et devant lui, et une nouvelle base de béton a été coulée. 

La nouvelle base de béton est surmontée par des éléments à la fois anciens et neufs. Le cénotaphe de marbre original, dédicacé dans les années 1950, se trouve à l’avant?plan. L’ancien monument a été refait, de manière à ce que les noms qui y sont inscrits soient en évidence. De chaque côté se dressent les nouveaux ajouts, soit deux monuments de granit. Un nouveau mât porte-drapeau a été installé également, et des aménagements paysagers ont été effectués.

Le mémorial de Winterton a été édifié en 1948 et déménagé en 1959 sur son emplacement actuel. En 1998, il a été remis en état et reconsacré au coût de 33 000 $, aux frais des gouvernements fédéral et provincial et des citoyens de Winterton. Il a été érigé à la mémoire des anciens combattants des Première et Seconde Guerres mondiales et de la guerre de Corée, ainsi que des casques bleus de l’ONU et de l’OTAN.
