About this service
The Veteran Family Telemedicine Service connects qualifying Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces, their families and survivors to Maple, a national virtual care network of licensed physicians, nurse practitioners and healthcare providers.
It provides Veterans and their families who do not have a primary healthcare provider with access to virtual health care. This service helps ensure timely access to a primary care provider, particularly during the transition to life after service.
In 2026, the Veteran Family Telemedicine Service was extended to provide an additional year of access to Maple for currently registered users. Eligibility was also expanded to include all eligible Veterans, their families, and survivors, not just those who were medically released.
Who can apply?
Eligible Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces, their families and surviving family members of deceased Canadian Armed Forces members who released on or after 1 April 2025.

Additional information
Find out more
- The Veteran Family Telemedicine Service (VFTS) is a pilot program funded through VAC in partnership with Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services.
- This pilot program connects Veterans and their families to Maple, a national network of Canadian-licensed doctors, nurse practitioners, and healthcare providers who are accessible online via secure text messaging, audio, or video.
- The Veteran Family Telemedicine Service gives Veterans and their families the option to receive medical services in a bilingual, portable, free, and modern format.
- This service does not replace provincial health care services. Veterans and their families should continue to register with their local health authority to get a family doctor, recognizing this can take time in some communities.
- The pilot will be reviewed and reported on once complete. Depending on the level of success, it may be expanded or extended beyond the trial period.
- Do not use Maple in the case of a medical emergency. If you are in need of urgent, life-saving care, call 911 immediately.
