Unveiled 9 July 1967, this memorial is dedicated to two local men killed during the world wars, Private Aldice M. Getchell and Lieutenant Norman J. Nixon. Getchell served with the 115th Battalion and was killed in 1918. Lt. Nixon served with the Cape Breton Highlanders and was killed in 1945. Both of these men attended the Mayfield School. Nixon also taught at the school.
